The Church

Question: Can you get married in Nerja?

Answer: Yes, you can marry in the Catholic church provided at least one of you is Catholic (baptised) and neither have previously been married in the church.

The main Catholic church in Nerja is the “El Salvador” which is located right in the town centre next to the Balcon de Europa. The parish priest is Father Antonio Jesus who will perform ceremonies in English. To marry officially in the Catholic church at least one of you must be Catholic (baptised). Your marriage certificate will be registered in the town hall in Nerja the next working day after the wedding then handed to you or, sent to you by post if you´re no longer in resort.

There are two other churches which are popular for weddings. One in Frigiliana, San Antonio de Padua (Saint Anthony of Padua) and one in Maro, Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas  (The church of Our Lady of Wonders). See here for info on these churches.

The ceremony cost is 300€. This does not include floral decorations or live musicians . Click here to see prices for details) . The church does have a music system which you can plug a phone in to.

Non Catholics can have an Anglican blessing in the church (this is not officially recognised so you´d need to marry in your home country first). Cost for this is 180€ to use the church and 450€ for the Anglican chaplain to perform the ceremony.
